My name is Dr. Warren Hunter Looney, and I was born and raised in the small, rural community of Lufkin in East Texas. I spent half of my youth in Lufkin and later moved with my parents and two younger sisters to a semi-rural community in Georgia where I finished high school and subsequently completed my undergraduate degree with a B.S. in Biology at the University of Georgia. During my time at Georgia, I was selected to study abroad at the prestigious Oxford University in the United Kingdom. I matriculated into medical school at the Medical College of Georgia and completed a partial residency in Internal Medicine at Legacy Health Systems in Portland, OR.
I decided to move back to Texas soon after that and entered into a Family Medicine Program at Baylor San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX. My decision to change specialties as my passion was to practice a broader scope of medicine in caring for the entire family and contributing to the health of the community. I served as Chief Resident in my final year of my Family Medicine Residency and decided to move back to my hometown of Lufkin, TX, to care for the people in the community in which I grew up.
I was employed by a local hospital for three years and went into private practice opening my clinic, Lone Star Family Medicine. I had a very successful practice in Lufkin with a patient panel of about 6,000 patients. I strongly believe in a traditional practice of medicine by serving my patients in all healthcare settings, including the hospital, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, and home health, to ensure continuity of care. I am comfortable taking care of all patients from Pediatrics to Geriatrics and from critically ill patients in the ICU to stable patients on the medical floor from admission to discharge. I also served as Chief of Family Medicine at one of the local hospitals in Lufkin for two years and have served as medical director for several skilled nursing facilities, hospices, and home health agencies.
I have obtained board certification in Family Medicine, and my areas of expertise are numerous including treatment of acute illnesses, management of chronic disease states such as Cardiovascular disease, Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, Endocrine disorders, Sports Medicine, Addiction Medicine, Psychiatric disorders, routine Gynecologic care, Preventative Medicine, and Procedures such as Dermatologic and treatment of injuries such as lacerations to name a few. My background, training, and clinical experience have taught me that an excellent Family Physician can take care of most clinical issues through strong, evidenced-based medicine and clinical judgment.
Words cannot express how excited I am to begin this new adventure in the community of Watford City. I am very proud to be a part of McKenzie County Healthcare Systems and look forward to contributing to the health care needs of the area. Thus far, the community has been very welcoming and kind, and it very much reminds me of Texas. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of such an excellent health care facility, and thank you for welcoming me to Watford City.
